Can’t or Won’t?

A year has passed since my first blog post on my website. The title ” This is hard!” accurately describes my relationship with the website to a tee.   I have made many excuses for not fully completing the process and none of them really get to the core of why I find this such a chore.  Apart from the technology side being a learning curve that seems some days to flow and other days feel like I starting all over!  I think I just do not enjoy the fact that this seems like a very one sided experience.  I thrive on discussion where I am learning from others, where I am challenged to think in different ways about things and where interaction encourages growth.  The thought of writing posts that sit on my web page gathering dust did not excite me.  This means that the excuses not to do have been easy to justify.   As I have been reflecting the why not!  I have decided that I need to re think my thinking. Instead of  looking to others for the learning opportunity I need to find my own learning moments.  Here is what I have learned:

This challenge is connected to old messages about how difficult I find it to express myself through the written word.  Fears of being judged for errors and content are old voices that confine me to a set narrative of “can’t”.  Today I am taking a lesson from my friend “bob” who told me as we were trying out forward lunges with a Skateboard that it my can’t was really a won’t!   It is not that I could not write a blog post it was that I wouldn’t.   The next challenge is going to be keeping my self accountable to writing something once a month.

Watch this space!

  1. Hi Nikki, totally get where you are coming from on this, so not a can’t. You and me are old school and had grammar etc rammed down our throats with Mr Parsons and the like at Blackwell School (and not a bad thing either). Also we’re people persons and like to talk face to face so again so opposite to this alien world of bloggers and tweets. Good luck on your mission, I shall keep a watch (not for errors) Go girl You can do it I have every faith in you. Ciao for now, Kaf
